When to Observe Jumadal Al-Aakherah Waxing (NEW) Crescent ?


The geocentric conjunction (Geocentric New Moon) will occur Inshalla on (Tuesday 12 December 2023) at 23:32 UT.

Sighting the new crescent on (Tuesday 12 December 2023) and (Wedensday 13 December 2023) is shown in the below graphs using the program Accurate Times by Mohammad Odeh according to Odeh criterion. Where:-

According to the Universal Hejric Calendar (UHC), which is based on the calculated crescent visibility, the start of this month in the Eastern Region will be on Thursday 14 December 2023 and in the Western Region will be on Thursday 14 December 2023. Kindly notice that the UHC is a pre-calculated calendar, which adopts a certain criterion to start the new Hejric month. Your country/organization might adopt different criterion to start the new Hejric month. So it is highly advised to read the UHC website before giving any judgment.

The new crescent of Jumadal Tsaniya 1445 AH was not sighted on Wednesday, December 13, 2023 from Assalaam Observatory at PPMI Assalaam, Pabelan Kartasura Sukoharjo Central Java Indonesia. The west sky was cloudy.

1 . Time of observation: Before sunset . Seen: ICOP member Dr. Javad Torabinejad from Blacksburg City in Virginia State mentioned that the sky was clear, the atmospheric condition was hazy, the crescent was seen by naked eye, the crescent was seen by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Dr. Javad Torabinejad said: "Using a pair of binoculars (7X50), I sighted the crescent at 1:58 pm EST.  I could not see it with naked eye, however.  The horns were approximately at 1:00 and 4:30 O'clock (1:00;3:00;4:30).  The sky was clear.  At 1:55 pm, the temperature, relative humidity, and pressure were 9 C, 26%, and 1038 mbar, respectively

Later in the day, I attempted an evening sighting.  I arrived at my sighting location at 4:56 pm (actual sunset 5:06 pm).  The western horizon was mostly clear.  Using a pair of binoculars (7X50), I located the crescent at 4:58 pm, followed by naked eye sighting.  The horns were approximately at 1:30 and 6:30 O'clock (1:30;4:00;6:30).  I left the sighting location at 5:45 when the moon was still a few degrees over the horizon (moonset: 6:42 pm).  At 4:55 pm, the temperature, relative humidity, and pressure were 7 C, 37%, and 1037 mbar, respectively."
