Observing the Crescent
So far, the earliest sighting of the crescent was on Wednesday 30 August 2000 from Iran by ICOP member, Mr. AliReza Mehrani.
Tuesday 29 August 2000
- Kuwait: ICOP member, Mr. Adel Hassan Mohamad said: "On Tuesday 29/8/2000 Moon set after the Sun by 17 minutes, it was impossible to see the Moon."
- Jordan: ICOP member Mr. Belal Gharaibeh mentioned that he did NOT see the crescent by naked eye, and added it was partly cloudy.
- Mexico: Mr. Muhammad Hafiz said: "THE MOON WAS NOT SEEN ON THE 29TH AUGUST, 2000 IN
GUADALAJARA, MEXICO AT SUSET 8:35 PM. THERE WERE NO RAIN CLOUDS ON THE HORIZON."
Wednesday 30 August 2000
- Iran: ICOP member, Mr. AliReza Mehrani said: " I, togather with three of the members of ICOP and ten members of AAS, observed the Moon crescent.
- UAE: ICOP member, Dr. David McNaughton said:
"Wednesday 30 August, dusk, Dubai beach, UAE. The haze was deeper and thicker than I
can remember for a long time. There
may also have been patchy cirrus to make conditions worse. My wife and I
managed to find Venus (easily through binoculars, and with the naked eye
with some difficulty). However, we did not see a crescent even through our
binoculars, even though we scanned the area where it should have been, in
relation to Venus."
- Jordan: ICOP member Mr. Belal Gharaibeh mentioned that he was able to see the crescent by naked eye.
- Algeria: ICOP member, Mr. Bankih Kacem said: "07 members of the AMNIR club are presents in our station. The sky was very hazy that two (02) members have seen Venus." Mr. Bankih mentioned that the crescent was NOT seen.
- Morocco: ICOP member, Dr. Hamid Touma said: "I am very glad to inform you that in Morocco
the first day of Joummada II was officialy declared for the 31 August
2000. We were not able to observe the Crescent of the Moon this day
because it was totaly cloudly in the West."
- South Africa: ICOP member, Mr. Hashim Salie said: "Crescent Moon seen by 5 members of the Crescent Observers Society, on Signal Hill. Partly cloudy skies, with a low dark cloud on the lower horizon. 1st Jamaduth Thaanee 1421 corresponds to 31 August 2000."
- Nigeria: ICOP member, Mr. Alabi Isiaq said: "The crescent was sighted with naked eyes on the wednesday evening, 30th of August 2000 in Lagos, Nigeria."
- Mexico: Mr. Muhammad Hafiz said: "THE MOON WAS SEEN ON THE 30TH AUGUST, 2000 IN
GUADALAJARA, MEXICO AT SUNSET 8:35 PM. THERE WERE RAIN CLOUDS ON THE HORIZON."
