When to Observe Dhul Hijjah Waxing (NEW) Crescent ?


The geocentric conjunction (Geocentric New Moon) will occur Inshalla on (Monday 20 July 2020) at 17:33 UT.

Sighting the new crescent on (Monday 20 July 2020) and (Tuesday 21 July 2020) is shown in the below graphs using the program Accurate Times by Mohammad Odeh according to Odeh criterion. Where:-

According to the Universal Hejric Calendar (UHC), which is based on the calculated crescent visibility, the start of this month in the Eastern Region will be on Wedensday 22 July 2020 and in the Western Region will be on Wedensday 22 July 2020. Kindly notice that the UHC is a pre-calculated calendar, which adopts a certain criterion to start the new Hejric month. Your country/organization might adopt different criterion to start the new Hejric month. So it is highly advised to read the UHC website before giving any judgment.

Not Seen: ICOP member Mr. Abdellatif Fareh from كوينين City in الوادي State mentioned that the sky was clear, the atmospheric condition was hazy, the crescent was not sought by naked eye, the crescent was not seen by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Mr. Abdellatif Fareh said: "قام النادي الفلكي لجمعية الهناء للإشعاع الثقافي مغرب هذا اليوم الإثنين بتحري هلال ذي الحجة،و بعد مراجعتنا للمعطيات الفلكية لوضع الهلال التي تبين استحالة رؤيته، بالإضافة إلى الحالة المغبرة للسماء ناحية الغرب، فقد تعذرت رؤية الهلال بالعين المجردة و بالمنظار."

Mr. Messaoud Kechida said: "قام أعضاء النادي الفلكي بڨمار برصد هلال أول شهر ذو الحجة بعد الإطلاع على المعلومات الفلكية التي تسمح برصده مساء اليوم وبعد تتبع مكان غروب الهلال تمكن الراصدون من مشاهدة الهلال بعد 10 دقائق من موعد غروب الشمس 
بالتحديد 20:03 الى غاية 20.25 "

Mr. Abdellatif Fareh said: "الحمد لله رب العالمين تمكن أعضاء النادي الفلكي بكوينين جمعية الهناء للإشعاع الثقافي من رصد هلال شهر ذي الحجة المبارك، رغم تلبد الغبار في الأفق الغربي إلا أنه بتوفيق من الله تمت مشاهدة الهلال باستخدام المنظار ثم بالعين المجردة، مع العلم أن اليوم الثلاثاء هو 29 ذي القعدة حسب التقويم الرسمي لوزارة الشؤون الدينية."

Germany

Martin Elsaesser from Munich City in Bavaria State mentioned that the sky was clear, the atmospheric condition was clear, the crescent was not sought by naked eye, the crescent was not sought by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was seen by CCD Imaging
Eng. Martin Elsaesser said: "Due to uncertain weather in the evening i did a quick daytime observation before noon with the imaging system.
The crescent could be easily seen at around 9degree elongation from the sun once it had emerged behind my neigbours shrubbery. A fine thin arc with structures was easily visible in the live image. The brightest part of the crescent arc was only around 1.12% brighter than the surrounding sky."



Indonesia

Time of observation: After sunset.Seen by others: ICOP member Mr. AR Sugeng Riyadi from Surakarta City in Central Java State mentioned that the sky was partly cloudy, the atmospheric condition was hazy, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was not seen by binocular, the crescent was not seen by telescope, the crescent was not seen by CCD Imaging
Mr. AR Sugeng Riyadi said: "The new crescent of Dhulhijjah 1441 AH was NOT SIGHTED on Tuesday, July 21, 2020 from Assalaam Observatory, Pabelan Kartasura Sukoharjo Central Java Indonesia, the west sky was cloudy.

The crescent observation for Dhulhijjah 1441 AH has been successfully held on Tuesday, July 21st, 2020 (Dhul Qeadah 29th, 1441 AH). The observation was closed for public amid to COVID-19 pandemic. The internal team member of Assalaam observatory started the observation at 17.00 Western Indonesian Time (UTC+7). All of the optical equipment were connected to the streaming device, for broadcasting via Youtube channel of Assalaam Observatory.

The observation was led by the chair of the astronomy center at Assalaam, Mr. AR Sugeng Riyadi. A number of team member including Mr. Purnomo, Mr. Taufiq, Mrs. Aline, Mrs. Tri Ratna were helping the chair to handle the observation equipment. 

However, the crescent was seen from several locations: Ponorogo, Kupang and Pasuruan, and according to the ithbat council by the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, 1 Dhulhijjah 1441 AH started on Wednesday, July 22nd, 2020."

Equipments: One set of 20*90 binocular - Two set of 15*70 binoculars,  One compass.
Atmospheric condition: Hazy
Horizon obstacles: about 2.5°
Apparent Sunset: 19:52
Results: Moon crescent was seen by 20*90 binoculars by Ali Janghorbani at 20:21 , for the first time. Other group members observed crescent by binoculars subsequently. Moon crescent was seen by naked eye by Reza Janghorbani and Roya Ghermezi at 20:33 , for the first time. Other group members observed crescent by naked eye subsequently.

وعند رصد الهلال كان رقيقا جدا

وأما بالعين المجردة فرأيناه ولكن بصعوبة كبيرة في البداية وفي النهاية

Dr. Javad Torabinejad said: "I arrived at my sighting location in Blacksburg prior to sunset (sunset 8:39 pm EDT).  The horizon was cloudy and very hazy.  After a few minutes, I decided to continue sighting in Christiansburg, hoping that I would have a better chance of sighting the moon there.  I tried several locations within the town.  At the last place, using a pair of binoculars (7X50), I started scanning areas that appeared to be clear but still very hazy.  I could not see the moon.  I left the area prior to moonset (moonset: 9:45 pm)."

Mr. AR Sugeng Riyadi said: "The old crescent of DhulQeadah 1441 AH was easy seen on Sunday, July 19, 2020 from Rowasiya Observatory at Bendi Ketitang Juwiring Klaten and from Assalaam Observatory at PPMI Assalaam Pabelan Kartasura Sukoharjo Central Java Indonesia.

I took moon photo by gadget + 71 mm telescope at Rowasiya Observatory.

Mr. Taufiq Hidayat took moon photo by gadget + 14 inchi telescope at Assalaam Observatory."

Eng. Martin Elsaesser said: "I could not do an observation of the old crescent before sunrise so i had to try daytime observation again, with the moon at 4.9° elongation from the sun.
Sky conditions were good. The local observatory reported AOD of 0.098 at 675nm. 
I could quickly detect a short and surprisingly bright part of the crescent (0.6% brighter than the background) with the imaging system and more of the crescent arc was also visible with longer exposures.
